Sanibel Island offers visitors and residents a unique refuge; no other place in Florida has the unspoiled natural beauty that is the hallmark of our community. With over 60% of the island being a wildlife conservation sanctuary to prevent more development I tell people what you see is what you get. We have a strict building plan so no structures taller than 35 ft. will ever mar our beaches. Less definitely more.

Sanibel is only 3 miles at the widest point and approximately 13 miles long. With roughly 6500 year round residents and close to 30,000 seasonal residents we maintain a small town atmosphere. While only 45 minutes away from Ft. Myers recently expanded Southwest Regional Airport, after crossing the bridge paradise awaits.

Sanibel has been attracting visitors to its fabulous turquoise shores for years. Our beaches boast some of the best shelling in the world with over 200 varieties, our nature sanctuaries attract birders from all over the world, and we have over 22 miles paths to experience.

Let's not forget the cultural opportunities found on Sanibel first we have the Barrier Island Group for the Arts ( Big Arts) which was established in 1979 and features an art gallery, a hall of concerts, various art and culinary oriented classes, exhibits and workshops. Secondly we have numerous art galleries, the Sanibel Music Festival which hosts 7 concerts in March featuring world renowned classical artists, and the Sanibel
Public Library which houses over 35,000 books and 3,000 video and audio tapes. I have a friend who belongs to a few book clubs from Cape Cod to Sanibel and she reports Sanibel’s book club is by far the best!

Whatever your interests are, we have them, as long they don’t consist of high rises, lots of concrete, bright street lights, or wild nightlife that goes on until the wee hours of the morning. I tell people that this is the best place to retire and to raise a family. It’s like stepping back into a simpler time where community matters, culture is important, nature co-exists with humans and you get to know your neighbors. Come let me show you the magic of island life.
